Date: December 11, 2018

A group of total 11 teachers and students from Department of Occupational Safety and Health, China Medical University, went for an one-week visit in University of Occupational and Environmental Health (UOEH), Japan. This visit group of CMU is the first batch of overseas visiting students supported by the Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science (Sakura Science Exchange Program in Science) by Japan Science and Technology Agency.
UOEH offered 10 courses and 6 activities to CMU teachers and students, including topics on the history of Japan’s occupational health development, labor’s occupational health and safety management, and workplace stress prevention and its related issues. In addition, the group visited the Kitakyushu city and learned how it transformed from an industrially polluted city to an ecologically-friendly city through the implementation of occupational and environmental health policy, talents cultivation, and social participation.
“By this visiting, we hope to let our students see how Japan deal with the local pollution problem and how they develop its own management system and promote it to the world. We expect that our students will be able to form a more comprehensive and systematic way for solving problems in the future. We also want to provide opportunity for students who are passionate in academic research to interact with prestigious foreign scholars, and encourage them to enter their research career.” said Professor Ro-Ting Lin, the leader of the CMU visiting group.
In recent years, China Medical University has been establishing cooperation and academic exchanges with prestigious universities worldwide. Through this one-week visit, CMU student not only broadened their horizon but also gained a deeper understanding of Japan’s development and application in the field of occupational safety and health. The visit lays a good foundation for the academic exchange between CMU and UOEH. It is also a great opportunity for cultivating new generation of professional talents in the field of occupational health.
