中國醫藥大學『2022大師典範傳承經典論壇』,10月20日特別邀請美國哈佛大學的傑出學者Vanessa Kerry,MD和Brian Nahed,MD發表專題演講,吸引約1500位師生透過實體或是線上的方式參與,場面相當熱絡,兩位學者與學生服務團隊進行互動論壇時,鼓勵大學生投身醫療服務,提升人類健康福祉。
美國哈佛大學的著名學者Vanessa Kerry,MD和Brian Nahed,MD在本校郭樹勳副校長邀請下,以公共服務議題發表演講「Building Human Capacity for Universal Health Care:Bridging from Individual to Systemic Change」。Dr.Vanessa Kerry是Seed Global Health的創辦人,他們發現全球健康醫療資源的分佈不均,於是透過成立當地機構,不遺餘力的培養當地的專業醫療人力,希望讓醫療資源匱乏地區的居民,也能享有基本的醫療取得權利,在有病症的時候,能獲得專業醫療人士的診斷和治療,期盼讓世界各地的人們不論身份與種族都有平等接受醫療的機會。
Dr.Brian Nahed闡述如何利用科技及創意開發新穎的醫療技術,進而擴大服務量能並提升全球健康醫療品質,讓與會師生了解到全球醫療的改善並非遙不可及,只要能踏實努力,更多的參與者投入,同心協力共同奉獻,所凝聚的力量就會產生無限可能,一定會有能力做出改變。
『2022大師典範傳承經典論壇』由郭樹勳副校長進行引言與總主持,楊良友國際長、馬維芬學務長協同主持,並邀請姊妹校亞洲大學張少樑學務長致詞,論壇活動除了開放中國醫藥大學水湳校本部、英才校區和北港分部、亞洲大學等實體場地參與外,也開放全國大專校院及高中職學校有興趣師生線上參與,分享國際公共服務及全球衛生的服務學習經驗,也藉此全英語講座與論壇,給予學子最佳的英語訓練環境,共同迎接2030雙語國家的來臨。
在大師專題演講之後的互動論壇,中國醫藥大學杏服醫學服務隊、物理治療學系及亞洲大學社工系的學生社團,分別進行公共服務學習經驗的分享,中醫大醫服隊長期深耕南投,以偏遠山區、原住民孩童及長輩為服務對象;物理治療團隊的分享則是以服務者與病患間的溝通以及病患治療後的回饋為主軸,報告主題:Rural Care and Service: the Story Between Us及Physical Therapy Voluntary Service Team,亞洲大學的學生分享他們參與志工活動的成果和投入的動機,報告主題:Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) Services in Myanmar,三組同學全程以英文報告,著實看到中亞聯大師生在服務學習與外語能力的顯著推動成效。
兩位哈佛大學學者對中國醫藥大學及亞洲大學學生社團的公共服務表現印象十分深刻,給與學生非常高的評價,他們也針對學生的公共服務提供建議,期許學生能持續熱愛他們的公共服務,未來對需要幫助的人與族群做出更大的幫助與服務。
在互動交流時間,有兩位同學向Dr.Brian Nahed及Dr Vanessa Kerry提問兩位講者,如何在如此忙碌的專業生涯裡又能夠兼顧醫療事業及家庭,挪出時間來做提升全球健康的公共服務,以及求學的過程中是甚麼特殊的經歷啟發並引導他們投身提升全人類健康福祉的領域;兩位講者無私地分享他們在事業發展過程中所遭遇的困難,及如何兼顧事業、家庭及投入公共服務的時間,讓學生們受益良多。
郭樹勳副校長並致贈感謝狀給Vanessa Kerry,MD和Brian Nahed,MD為論壇帶來的精彩經驗分享與指導,啟發中國醫藥大學乃至全國大專校院、高中同學共同關懷弱勢,奉獻所學,尤其醫藥專業人員更能夠關注國際醫療、在地醫療,以已身專業回饋社會,學習大師的典範,用行動及信念讓社會更加和諧、增進人類健康。
【講師簡歷】
Vanessa Kerry, MD
Vanessa Kerry is the director of the Program in Global Public Policy and Social Change in the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School. The program helps examine the underutilization of healthcare as a tool to address economic, social, and cultural disparities that define poor health domestically and internationally. The Program’s signature initiative is the Threatened Health System Initiative which specifically focuses on the opportunities for protecting health systems in crisis response especially by security and military actors. The Initiative’s goal is to strengthen policies around crisis response, to develop networks between security actors, health providers, INGOs and others to improve problem solving, to engage in research to better understand the health systems’ vulnerability and the subsequent opportunities for improved response, and to provide technical support to build capacity in in these systems. Dr. Kerry is the founder and CEO of Seed Global Health, a non-profit that invests in health system strengthening by training needed health professionals in resource limited settings; through her work at Seed Global Health, she examines the role for and impact of improving human resources for health in these countries.
Brian Nahed, MD
Dr. Brian Nahed specializes in Brain Tumors and Spinal Disorders. As an attending neurosurgeon at the Massachusetts General Hospital, he has appointments with the MGH Cancer Center, Stephen E. and Catherine Pappas Center for Neurooncology and is a faculty member of the Harvard Medical School. Dr. Brian Nahed's research focuses on brain tumors and metastatic disease. In collaboration with Drs. Daniel Haber and Shyamala Maheswaran, Dr. Nahed's research has received several grants supporting his laboratory effort at the MGH Cancer Center. Dr. Nahed is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and serves on national committees for the Tumor Section and Council of State Neurological Surgeons.
